Quilts from my Paintbrush

Jun 27th - Jul 20th, 2014 Location: 211 East 1st Street, Sanford, Florida, Time: Tue-Sat 10am-6pm and Sun 12-5pm Ken "Blacktop" Gentle approaches quilts in a new way. "I created the quilts as a challenge to myself to see if I could do it. I've always put quilts into my memory paintings and I just wanted to pull them out of my paintings and paint them on a bigger scale. I've always felt quilting has brought the values of both African and European Americans together like no other folk art tradition." This show will feature large scale quilt replicas painted on lightweight packing quilts. In addition, some of Ken's memory paintings that include quilts will be part of the collection. The opening reception, Friday, June 27 will coincide with the Sanford Art Walk, from 6-9pm.
